Ditch the soap!

Here’s an interesting thought for the day – have you ever considered washing your face with oil?

No, don’t stop reading!

I realise it sounds completely counterintuitive, but when you look at the logic behind oil cleansing it makes absolutely perfect sense.  In fact, we’re so committed to oil cleansing in the Tús Nua house that we use it on the kids as well.  Soap is a thing of the past!

Oil cleansing works in a completely different way to soap.  Chemical soaps, often especially those that are intended to treat skin problems such as breakouts, can actually strip your skin of natural oils, but those oils are there for a reason.  Stripping them away causes our skin to go into oil production overdrive, and can result in clogged pores and breakouts.  So what do we do? We use increasingly harsh means to counteract the oil production, and so get caught in a vicious cycle.  I used a well known brand of blemish control for years, there were 4 different products in the system required to ‘control’ my skin, and for all intents and purposes, it worked.  Why? Because as soon as I stopped using it, ie, stopped stripping the oil away from my skin, I ended up with excess oil and spots.

I switched to oil cleansing about a year ago – reluctantly and with great scepticism – and am happy to report that I have never been tempted to go back to my old faithful blemish control system.  Turns out my skin didn’t need controlling at all, it needed to be left alone to do what it does best!

Oil cleansing works, quite simply, because oil dissolves oil, therefore all the dirt that builds up over the course of the day and is held in our pores, is lifted out by the oil.  Our cleansing oil is combination of oils that are widely recognised for their skin caring and healing benefits:

  • Organic castor oil: as well as being an effective moisturiser, castor oil’s antimicrobial properties fight acne and other skin blemishes. It’s great for sensitive skin, and its fatty acids nourish all skin types leaving your skin feeling smooth and hydrated
  • Organic sweet almond oil: this gentle, hypoallergenic oil is great at cleaning out pores as well as being rich in Vitamin E. It leaves skin softer, reduces wrinkles and is a great emollient
  • Organic cold pressed rosehip oil: a skincare superstar, rosehip is full of vitamins and antioxidants that help nourish skin, and reduce scars and fine lines. It contains essential fatty acids which work wonders for soothing skin redness and irritation.
  • doTERRA lavender essential oil: the soothing, calming, anti bacterial, anti inflammatory, anti aging wonder oil! It helps prevent and heal blemishes, and reduces the appearance of red patches, age spots, skin discoloration, fine lines and wrinkles

Don’t believe me? Why not try it for yourself! We'd love to hear what you think of it :-)
